Jake Cronenworth is a Padre for seven more years
On Friday, March 31st, The San Diego Padres and superstar Jake Cronenworth agreed to a seven-year contract extension but will not start until the 2024 season
The 29-year-old second baseman will be Padre until he is 36 years old. Was this a good decision made by the Padres? Most of the time, we don’t see many players at this age get extended for this long. Lucky for the Padres, Jake Cronenworth is a pretty decent and healthy guy.
Last season was a pretty great season for the star, with 587 AB, .239 BA, 17 HR, 88 RBI’S, three SB, and OPS., Those are numbers of an outstanding player, though the beginning of the season was quite rough for the second baseman. Jake was struggling to regain all the power he once had when he first played for this team.
Jake Cronenworth was also one of the best-performing players for the Padres during the playoffs last season. With 16 ABs, he had seven hits and drove in three runs when the Padres needed it the most when playing a close game against the Dodgers in the NLDS and shortly sending them home, all thanks to Cronenworth.
Jake Cronenworth also made the All-Star roster and defied all odds in 2022. After having a very unsuccessful start to his season, he worked his way up to the NL All-Star Team as a replacement for Injured player at the time, Jazz Chisolm. Fans were happy to see Jake back and playing with his teammates at Dodger Stadium, Manny Machado and Joe Musgrove.
Jake Cronenworth Expressed his relief and excitement when asked about his appearance in the 2022 All-Star Game, "It's kind of hard to put into words,” Cronenworth said. “The work I've put in this year, and the difficulties and struggles I went through early on, to get through those and get back to my normal self and to be able to do this with Manny and Joe is pretty special."
