TEAM CAPTAIN: LIZZIE

My name is Lizzie, and I am the founder of SportStatNetwork! I write for Ice Hockey, edit articles, and run the site. Growing up, I was always either sitting on the couch on Sunday watching football, waking up at 6 am to play soccer, or begging my parents to take me to a baseball game. I am currently on my school’s varsity golf team and have played all four years.

To me, watching sports was always a numbers game, but I never realized it until recently. I remember sitting on the bus at the Sectional Golf Tournament, talking to my teammates about what the players still on the course would have to score on each hole in order for us to have a chance.

This is when my friend pointed out how differently I saw the sport compared to her.

While she just saw the fact we needed to play well, my brain automatically compared the stats of everyone playing to see how we could fare.

This is why I created SportStatNetwork: for people who think like me. I am constantly going on different websites to compare how my favorite hockey player is doing compared to how he is getting paid and compared to his teammates’ pay. I wanted to create a website where all of this information is together and accessible.

Abigail Kosch

Hey! My name is Abigail (Abby) Kosch, and I'm a 17-year-old from New Jersey. At a young age, my dad introduced me to the world of sports, and I also played recreational, travel, and high school softball for 10 years before stepping away last season. Sports have always played a big role in my life, as I use them as a way to both express myself and surround myself with people who are as passionate about something as I am. My entire family is full of crazy hockey fans from all different kinds of teams, so hockey quickly became a huge part of me. You'll find me almost every night during hockey season, watching any game I can find, whether it's a Devils game or not. After I graduate high school, I plan on finding a career in the world of Sports Journalism. I've been writing for my school's newspaper for the past two years, and I look forward to growing and maturing my writing skills and abilities with SportStatNetwork.

Alexandra Aguila

Hi! I’m Alexandra, and I’m from Chicago, Illinois! Baseball is a sport I’ve always been passionate about and have loved since I was little. Some of my favorite baseball memories have been getting to experience the different atmospheres of each stadium. I have traveled to many MLB stadiums so far, but nothing will ever beat going to Wrigley Field for a day game! In all, baseball is a sport that relies heavily on statistics, which could ultimately depict the outcome of a game. Therefore, I’m excited to contribute to SportStatNetwork and be involved in a movement to bring more women into the sports industry!

Allison Girardi

I’m Allison, and I’m a college student studying sports journalism at Rutgers University. I love sports and have felt incredibly connected to journalism and creating content for things like sports with teams I love. It really feels like a beautiful fit for me when I’m doing these things because I really love it. I think I can offer a lot of content and pieces to SportStatNetwork that are diverse and interesting.

Aly McIsaac

Hi! My name is Aly, and I am a high school student from Doylestown, Pennsylvania. I was introduced to sports from a young age and have been a huge sports fan ever since. Sports have always been an integral part of my life, whether I’m on the field hockey turf or cheering on my favorite teams.
Sports have connected me with so many incredible people, and I hope to give others a community they can rely on in sports too. I hope to share my passion for sports, and the stats behind the game, with other like-minded fans, adding fresh ideas to the SportStatNetwork page while also gaining valuable experience for the future.

Ashley Difazio

Hello, my name is Ashley, I'm from the Toronto area, and I write for Baseball. This year I'll be starting grade 12 and I am so excited to be taking my school's Sports Leadership Class. Growing up, my parents put me in just about every sport there is. I played soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, swimming, volleyball, and even did gymnastics and dance. I grew up playing sports every day on my street, and on the weekend we competed in huge tournaments for basketball, baseball, soccer, road hockey and touch football.

Last year I completed a Data Management Class, where I learned all about stats and probability. I've also been successful in all my math courses – math has always been my thing. That’s why I always turn to stats when analyzing sport, and why I'm an ambassador for SportStatNetwork, where I can use my passions and interests in stats and sports to write compelling articles that help other analyze and understand sports from this perspective.

Bella Beltran

Hello I’m Bella! I’m from Los Angeles, California and I’ve always loved sports since it has been something I grew up around for almost my whole life. Baseball is the main sport I’m very passionate about. The diversity and different ball clubs was what really got my attention. There’s so much to learn in this sport it never gets old. I’ve never really had friends to talk crazy baseball with so finally finding my outlet and something I can release all this information to has been beyond enjoyable for me. I also hope to bring more women into the sports industry. We’re often overlooked when we can contribute a lot as well.

Cari Raphael

Hi, my name is Cari Raphael. I am a 17 year old from New York and I write for Basketball. Sports have always been a huge part of my life. Whether it was on the soccer field, basketball court, softball field or simply just on my family room TV, sports have always been viewed (in my eyes) as a way for people to connect.

Sports go beyond being just a game and that is why my love for them is very deep. As my own sports career comes to an end this year, my love for all sports is something that I will carry with me for my whole life. That is why I write for SportStatNetwork. I want to maintain my relationship with sports and show others the love and passion I see through sports and the stats behind them.

Dani Dallas

My name is Dani, I’m a high school student from California, and I write for Ice Hockey and Football! A memory of mine is begging my dad for a New York Giants jersey in fourth grade, and I will never forgive the Packers for beating them out of the playoffs that same year. Ever since then I’ve loved sports. My passion for sports is rooted in football (go Giants and Bills), but I also love ice hockey (go Devils and Sabres). If you need someone who knows every top draft pick from the last 20 years, I’m your girl. You can also find me watching a game or playing NHL 2023 EA Sports (also your girl to talk to about that game, I am literally addicted to pro-mode). Apart from engaging in sports, I love music, movies/tv, and environmental studies! Can’t wait to share my knowledge with you all on SportStatNetwork.

Elizabeth Wilson

Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and I am from Boston, Massachusetts. I am a senior in high school and am currently involved with a dual enrollment program through a local college for sports management and media. Growing up, I was surrounded by sports and even attended my very first college hockey game at 11 weeks old. While I am passionate about baseball and football, I have an outstanding love for ice hockey. Outside of school, I dedicate my free time to watching hockey, playing hockey, or researching hockey. It’s safe to say my entire world revolves around the great sport of ice hockey, and I can’t wait to continue my passion by writing for SportStatNetwork.

Ella Friery

Hi! I’m Ella and I write for hockey and some baseball. Coming from a small town in Arkansas, we didn’t really have any hockey. Over the course of the pandemic, I discovered hockey. I researched everything about it, from positions to penalties and even different shots. I had already enjoyed sports, but finding hockey awoken this crazy sports fan in me, and now I don’t want to tame her. I knew I wanted to make sports my career, so I’m now on an accelerated track through UMASS Boston honors college to get my BA in Business Management with a dual concentration in Sports Business and Data Analytics.

I would love to be a part of a network that allows me to connect with not just other fans but other women with a passion for sports like I do. I feel like I could bring a lot to SportStatNetwork as I am adept at forming ideas from studying sports stats.

Emily Hoffman

Hey, my name is Emily! I write for football, and I am our Social Media Coordinator! I am currently a sophomore in college studying Communications with a concentration in Sports Journalism! I have always loved watching and playing sports my whole life. I’m so excited to contribute to SportStatNetwork in any way I can!

Jessica Bryant

Hey! I'm Jessica Bryant, and I'm thrilled to share a bit about myself with you. My original background is in nursing, but I decided to explore other interests. My goal is to become a full-time, remote writer. Sports have always held a special place in my heart, and being a sports writer would be an incredible opportunity. When it comes to soccer, I bring a unique perspective. Drawing from my nursing background, I can dive into the health aspect of the sport. As a fan of the Premier League, I particularly enjoy watching matches featuring powerhouse teams like Manchester City and Liverpool. I am excited to share my knowledge with SportStatNetwork, while following my passion.

Kay Dechert

My name is Kayla (Kay) Dechert and I am currently a sophomore studying Sports Communication at Marist College. I write for hockey, and football. I grew up in New Jersey, surrounded by the New York Giants, Yankees, and New Jersey Devils. I grew up playing a number of different sports and recently have become more involved with hockey. I find myself doing whatever I can to watch an NHL or NCAA game, especially when the Michigan Wolverines are on the ice.

I think people, especially young girls and women, look at sports and think that they are unable to join in. In writing for SportStatNetwork, I would like to show people that this is simply not true.

Kyra Ferber

My name is Kyra Ferber, and I am a junior at DePaul University studying Communication and Media, as well as pursuing minors in Psychology and Radio, TV, and New Media. I write for football and hockey! Despite not pursuing anything sports-related in school, I have always had an interest in and love for the sports industry. Chicago sports, especially the Blackhawks and Bears, mean a lot to me. I always opt to write about sports for class assignments when I get the chance because it is something that I enjoy showing to others. I find off-ice and off-the-field stories very interesting and can be important for everyone, even non-sports fans, to understand. As a Correspondent for SportStatNetwork, I can’t wait to write about Chicago sports teams and/or the NHL.

Before I finished high school, I knew that staying involved in sports was really important to me, so I decided to major in Sport Management and see where it takes me. Hi! My name is Samantha, and I am a high school student in New Jersey. Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to grow up to be some sort of writer. It wasn’t until I joined my school's newspaper and began covering sports that I knew sports journalism was my set goal. My favorite hockey team is the New York Rangers; however, any NHL game on the TV immediately grabs my attention, and I’m glued to my seat until the final second of the game. Starting to look at colleges, I am looking for schools with excellent journalism majors and any sport journalism opportunities. Writing for SportStatNetwork is an amazing opportunity, and I can’t wait to share my insights with you all.

Hi! My name is Shaina, and I write for Hockey. I live in New York City, and I am currently a Junior in high school. I have two younger brothers who have been playing hockey since they could walk, and while I never actually played myself, I fell in love with the sport and go to almost all of my brother’s games. I was born and raised a New York Rangers fan, and living so close to MSG is definitely a plus. I’ve always found myself constantly checking and memorizing stats, and cool facts, so my family nicknamed me ‘Shaina Rosen’ after the iconic Rangers color commentator, Sam Rosen.  My biggest goal is to someday become a Hockey journalist, and I am so excited to gain experience by working with SportsStatNetwork!
