The Chicago Bears Select OT Darnell Wright

Going into the NFL Draft, it was crystal clear the Chicago Bears needed to draft an offensive or defensive lineman. It was just a matter of who was available at pick nine. Once pick nine rolled around, the Chicago Bears did something we weren’t expecting. They traded down to pick ten with the Philadelphia Eagles, who ended up taking DT Jalen Carter.

FULL TRADE DETAILS:

Chicago Receives:

  • Pick 10

  • 2024 4th round pick

Philadelphia Receives:

  • Pick 9

With the tenth overall pick, the Chicago Bears selected OT Darnell Wright. At first glance, it seemed like Chicago would have been able to grab Wright in the middle of the first round, but once we got through pick 14, it was clear Chicago wouldn’t have ended up with one of the best tackles in the draft. Although there is a lot of controversy with the pick, with Paris Johnson Jr. being gone, I feel like this is the only right pick for Chicago. Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles made it crystal clear from day one that he wanted to build the trenches, but with the right guys. With the character issues surrounding Jalen Carter and Peter Skoronski having short arms for a tackle, Wright seemed like the best tackle available.

In Darnell Wright’s last 19 games, he allowed 0 sacks…yes 0 sacks. Not only did Wright let up 0 sacks in his last 19 games, but he also shut down 3rd overall pick DE Will Anderson Jr. during the Alabama vs. Tennessee game this past season. Only time will be able to tell if Darnell Wright was the right pick over Jalen Carter or Peter Skoronski. Chicago Bears fans are very optimistic he will be.
