F1 Teams as Disney Channel Original Movies
With the constant speculation about future driver pairings that silly season brings, it was only fitting to commemorate the current driver pairings by comparing them to Disney Channel original movies.
High School Musical
Everyone knows diva Sharpay Evans and her twin Ryan, who is always competing with her to get the most attention. George and Lewis are obviously competing on the track, but also over who can have the sassiest radio that week. Between George asking if anyone else was reporting rain, where he later realizes, “I think it’s sweat from the inside of my helmet.” To Lewis’ complaints about the car where Toto intervenes as Troy and says, “Lewis, the car is bad, we know. Please drive it.” Toto will occasionally enter the contest between the drivers to be Sharpay when he talks to Christian.
Princess Protection Program
Princess Rosalinda is under threat of being captured, so she is placed in a civilian family with a father and his daughter to keep her safe. The dynamic at Aston Martin is almost identical to the plot of this movie. Lance is Princess Rosalinda trying to stay in F1. His father, Lawrence, takes him under his wing to race for Aston Martin, which he owns a large portion of. Fernando is a veteran and understands the world of F1 very well, like how Carter, the daughter, understands the ‘real’ world. Fernando is constantly complimenting Lance on his driving skills on the radio, all while making sure Lawrence can hear.
Starstruck
Starstruck is exactly how the Alpine drivers will be feeling when they visit the factory after the season and realize they are the only people there aside from investors Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney, and Michael B. Jordan. The drivers can show the investors around their empty headquarters just like Christopher Wilde showed Jessica around Los Angeles.
Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!
Week after week, the Williams drivers are reminded of how uncompetitive their car is. They tell each other, “Good Luck!” after peering at their car’s floor. That’s where they have to tell themselves to be positive because they are living their dreams as F1 drivers. Similar to how the Duncan family had to cope with being separated on their travels while remembering how grateful they are for each other.
Frenemies
In one of the storylines, Avalon and Halley are best friends who turn into frenemies when they fight over a job at a fashion company. In F1, Charles and Carlos are friends who seem to be pitted against each other because Ferrari can’t get their act together. The team struggles to determine who should lead when the two are racing together. While friendly off the track, on the track, both drivers want to compete to their best abilities and get frustrated when they can’t.
Teen Beach Movie
Brady and Mack get sent into a movie where the bikers and surfers fight over the prime spot on the beach. They often indulge in songs to express their feelings and what’s going on. Brady is loving the change in scenery, while Mack is more reluctant to be in the movie. Lando is Brady and wants to enjoy the moment, while Oscar is more hesitant but warms up to the idea and ends up loving it. Lando is being supportive while trying to get Oscar adjusted to F1.
Cloud 9
Kayla Morgan is a fierce snowboarder and fashionista. But, she finds herself having to work at a dog kennel where former snowboarder Will Cloud works. Kayla and Zhou share a passion for fashion, making them a perfect comparison. Valtteri enjoys hobbies outside of F1, like biking, just like Will Cloud and his passion for his work at the kennel.
Zapped
In the film, Zoey has an app that lets her control boys. Checo yearns to have that control over his teammate. He desperately wants to know what racing light-years ahead of the competition is like. He wishes he could be the world champion and number one driver at Red Bull ahead of Max. Having this app would be undoubtedly convenient for Perez to achieve his dreams.
How to Build a Better Boy
Except in the case of AlphaTauri, the title should be renamed to How to Build a Better Teammate. In the unfortunate case of Nyck de Vries, his reign with AlphaTauri came to an abrupt close following the British Grand Prix. Yuki has now found himself a new teammate in veteran Daniel Riccardo.
Invisible Sister
Invisible is a fantastic adjective to describe how the season is going so far for the Haas team. They may have an impressive Qualifying session, but fans are always let down as their team somehow ends lower than expected at the end of the race. Their car comes to ruin their race as they might be passed by Perez, who was presumably eliminated prematurely in Q3 again.
With this year’s silly season coming to a conclusion on Friday, make sure to tune into the Dutch GP this weekend. And, of course, always keep an eye out for ridiculous and thought-provoking future pairings.
