Vancouver Canucks Name Quinn Hughes 15th Captain

Quinn Hughes has just been granted the highest leadership role on any hockey team. Being the captain not only shows your skill but also your passion for the game and the success of the people around you. The Vancouver Canucks have been searching for their new captain since they traded their previous captain Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders last season.

The 23-year-old defenseman is undeniably one of Vancouver's star players. Last season, Hughes put up almost a point per game with 69 assists and seven goals through 78 games. Quinn is an elite playmaker who thrives in setting up his teammates for goals instead of just scoring them himself, and that is why he will make a great captain. Hughes is also a very logical and educated player, and with the right support from management and teammates, he could easily take his team far.

Hughes is now the 15th captain in Canucks history and the first defenseman to wear the “C” full-time since Kevin McCarthy in 1982. “...something that I never even dreamed of, and I'm going to try my best…” Hughes said when being asked what being a captain means to him. Quinn Hughes is humble and always puts his teammates first, and I think we can expect him to do that even more now. Hughes is known for never being the team's loudest or most outgoing guy, but his work ethic and silent leadership speak for themselves.

After just getting the alternate captain title last year, many think he may not be up for the full captain challenge, but Bo Horvat has absolutely no doubts about Quinn’s abilities. “...I watched him grow over the four years that I played with him; you obviously saw the captain's qualities develop,” Horvat said when speaking on the news of Quinn’s newly founded captaincy title.

Quinn Hughes has every quality an NHL team wants in their captain. He is logical, humble, and selfless, but can he use these attributes together to bring his team to the top? Only time will tell.
