Who Won the Tkachuck trade?

Shocking to the hockey world, and especially Calgary fans, the Flames have now lost Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuck within ten days. The real question is, who gained the most in the end?

Tkachuck was traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Huberdeau, Weegar, Schwindt, and a 2025 first round pick. This season, in his 82 games played, Tkachuck scored 42 goals, had 62 assists, and averaged 1.26 points per game. Huberdeau had 30 goals, 85 assists, and an average of 1.4 points per game in his 80 games played. Lastly, in his 80 games, Weegar had 8 goals and 36 assists for a points per game average of .55.

These statistics clearly show that Huberdeau had a better season than Tkachuck and therefore should be worth more, yet he was traded alongside two players and a draft pick.

In addition to the statistical value of Huberdeau, he also makes less money. Huberdeau makes 5.9 Million AAV, Tkachuck makes 9.5 Million AAV, and Weegar makes 3.25 Million AAV. With the addition of two players, the Flames are also retaining salary cap space.

Overall, Huberdeau produces better than Tkachuck and the Flames are getting him, Weegar, Schwindt, and a 2025 first round draft pick just for Tkachuck. In my opinion, the Flames won this trade tremendously.
