Boston College Hockey’s Bright Future

For the past couple of years, NCAA’s men's hockey was dominated by the University of Michigan and the University of Minnesota, but for the 2023-24 season, a new team is stepping into the spotlight. So far, Boston College has seen an influx of highly talented recruits.

In recent news, Youngstown Phantoms goalie Jacob Fowler made the announcement that he has switched his commitment from Clarkson University to Boston College. Fowler could potentially be a four-year starter if he is able to demonstrate the ability that he has shown at the USHL level.

The class includes top-ranked recruit, who also appears to be the No. 1 American prospect for the upcoming 2023 NHL Draft, Will Smith, and a number of protected first-round draft picks, Gabe Perreault and Ryan Leonard, the younger brother of NHL forward John Leonard. BC will also welcome forward Will Vote and defensemen Drew Fortescue and Aram Minnetian.

A number of these players are members of the U.S. National Under-18 Team, with Leonard, Smith, and Perreault making up the top line. Smith currently leads the team in scoring, averaging over two points per game and making up 39 goals in 19 games. Perreault is the team’s second-leading scorer and has also scored with some of the highest points-per-game rates in the history of the NTDP, with 36 points in 19 games. Leonard has nearly scored at least one goal per game and is third on the roster with 28 points. The chemistry shown between the NTDP’s top line could be transferred to the NCAA.

With this talented incoming class, the Boston College Eagles are looking forward to a bright future ahead in the upcoming seasons.
