USC Wins Crosstown Series In Walk-Off Fashion
USC and UCLA’s rivalry continued with an exciting three-game series. With UCLA winning the opener and USC winning the second game, the third and final game would decide the series winner.
USC showed up early in the game and took control, smashing back-to-back home runs from Johnny Olmstead and Ethan Hedges in the bottom of the second inning. Followed by a double from Bryce Martin-Grudzielanek, making the game 3-0.
At the top of the seventh inning, UCLA answered right back to USC’s three runs with four runs, on top of their one run in the sixth, to take the lead. USC wasted no time and tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI from Grudzielanek and Carson Wells.
Although UCLA came very close to scoring in the eighth and ninth innings, with runners on first and third, they couldn’t quite get what they wanted.
USC stayed locked in during the ninth inning, ready to take control of the game. Cole Gabrielson came up to the plate in a bases-loaded situation with two outs, two balls, and two strikes and made history. Gabrielson hit a walk-off single and led the Trojans to a series victory.
The last time that USC walked off UCLA was 18 years ago, in 2005. Needless to say, the end of this game had every USC fan on the edge of their seat.
